My project addresses the issue of stigma around menstruation by teaching elementary and middle schoolers about how periods function, period myths, the pink tax, the environmental impacts of different menstrual products, period poverty, and what we can do to dispel these issues. Additionally, for the project I made period kits that had a pad, tampon, and an informational sheet on the session. Outside of the sessions, I also created reusable pads with the club I started, which are more sustainable, and they’re a better option for low income and unhoused people, as they can be washed and reused.
Advice to Future Gold Award Girl Scouts: Break the project down into its individual steps, and don’t let it overwhelm you. Remember, you have what it takes to be successful even if it means rethinking your original plan.
Quote That Personifies Your Girl Scout Experience: Girl Scouts was a place where I learned how to be the best version of myself, where I learned how to be a leader, and how to take care of the earth, myself, and the people around me.
