What is your favorite part about being a Girl Scout volunteer?
My favorite part of being a Volunteer in Girl Scouts is making so many friendships, learning so many things I didn't know I could do, passing on the passion for Girl Scouting, and seeing the joy on the Girl Scouts' faces. Seeing the growth in them, young and grown, and hearing all the positivity coming from everyone.
Is there anything surprising or less known about being a Girl Scout volunteer that you want to share with others?
There are so many areas to volunteer in! From helping in a troop, cleaning up camps, teaching both young and grown to believe in themselves, and that they can do anything! The best part about volunteering that surprised me most is that there are so many options to choose from and so many friendships to make.
What makes the Girl Scout Leadership Experience such an important program for Girl Scouts to participate in today?
The Girl Scouts really do look up to you and hang on every word and action. The Girl Scouts want to learn, to be accepted, to grow positively, and to love being leaders just like us. Being there is the most important step; showing them we love what we do for and with them makes the biggest impact. We give them a safe place, a learning space, and a place to grow in.
What does Girl Scouting mean to you and why?
Girl Scouts mean to me strength, growth, acceptance, and love. I came into Girl Scouts looking for my little girl to make friends, become more independent, learn to be a leader, learn new skills in all areas, and to connect with lifelong friendships. She has grown so much, and so have I. I never knew that I would also be learning and growing! Girl Scouts is a family that has your back, whether to give you a pat on the back or to help you stand up when you think you can't do it. The sisterhood in Girl Scouts is what I love best.
What would you say to someone who is considering becoming a Girl Scout volunteer?
You should come along with me to this because the experience is amazing! You have so many choices, from being there for a class to teaching a class, to helping clean up camps for the upcoming season, to learning new skills, and helping girls* be the best they can be. Watching the Girl Scouts grow from day to day and year to year is truly amazing and will make your heart warm. Making friendships and having fun is what you will look forward to. What's better than that!
What has been one of your most memorable moments as a Girl Scout volunteer?
Getting hugs of appreciation and love. ❤️
If you had to describe what it means to be a Girl Scout volunteer in one word, what word would you choose and why?
AMAZING!
Is there anything else about being a Girl Scout volunteer or Girl Scouting in general that you'd like to share with us?
It has been the best adventure of my life, and I look forward to continuing it for many, many years! And to thank all the support staff that I have worked with.
