This month, we’re thrilled to celebrate Alysia Scott (she/her) as our Volunteer Spotlight! Alysia has been a Girl Scout volunteer for 16 years, serving in nearly every volunteer role you can imagine — from Troop Leader and Service Unit Manager to Day Camp Volunteer, Global Action Team Advisor, and more. Her dedication runs deep, rooted in her own experience as a Girl Scout from Brownies through Cadettes, and strengthened even further as she watched her own Girl Scout blossom through troop activities, cookie sales, and global action projects.
What is your favorite part about being a Girl Scout volunteer?
My favorite part is meeting youth where they are and being a part of their journey as they discover themselves through scouting activities. A bonus is having your community and village expanded as an adult.
What makes Girl Scouts such an important program for Girl Scouts to participate in today?
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience helps youth build so much confidence, and that confidence carries far beyond K–12.
What does Girl Scouting mean to you?
Girl Scouting will always be a part of my life. I watched my own scout blossom tremendously through cookie sales, troop-led events, and the Global Action Team, and that means the world to me.
What would you say to someone considering volunteering?
Just try it once! You’ll be hooked!
One word to describe being a volunteer:
Rewarding. There might be long hours and no pay, but making a difference in a Scout’s life with your time is well worth it!
Most memorable moment?
When my original troop graduated in 2022, we took a trip to Los Angeles in celebration of all of their years of hard work. I frequently remember all of them singing "All Star" by Smash Mouth as loud as possible as we were driving down the highway to our next planned stop.
We are so grateful for Alysia’s leadership, care, and commitment to lifting up Girl Scouts and fellow volunteers. Thank you, Alysia! You make our movement stronger. 💚
Do you know an amazing Girl Scout volunteer who deserves to be recognized in a Volunteer Spotlight? We want to hear about them! You can nominate a volunteer by sending an email to stories@girlscoutsww.org with the volunteer's name and a few details about why they should be highlighted. Please include "Volunteer Spotlight" in the subject line of your email.
