My project consisted of using the amphitheater as an opportunity to teach lessons about construction to young women. Over the course of two-and-a-half days, we had five lessons, each teaching different and unique construction skills: Basic Structure (Blueprints), Safety Concerns, Concrete Laying, Leveling and Measuring, Hammers and Nails, and Stabilizing. I used the opportunity of the building to teach lessons for women by women. Each day we started the construction process with a general safety overview and identified potential safety hazards. The girls* did the majority of the building once the lesson leader taught them what they were doing. Each girl* said they learned something new that they hadn’t before. The root cause of this issue can’t be solved in a day, but through the project, each girl*, including me, learned something new about construction to take with them into the future.
