My Gold Award project aimed to address the issue of misinformation and lack of information about type 1 diabetes (T1D). This leads to not knowing what to do in an emergency, stereotypes, bullying, and more. In most public schools in America, including in Washington state, information about T1D is not taught to children, leaving a gap in this knowledge. My Gold Award project offers an in-depth and easy-to-follow, curriculum that educators can add to their lessons. I implemented this lesson plan into the required health course at my high school. From here, this lesson plan can be replicated at other schools. My lesson plan contains information about what T1D is, information about advocacy, and spreading awareness.
