For my Gold Award, I created an educational picture book aimed at an early elementary school audience. The purpose of this book was to show children the amazing things insects do and to build an appreciation for insects. This collection of short stories was written from the perspective of various insect species, and it featured hand-drawn, anatomically correct insects. I contacted local libraries so that I could get my book out there for the public to access. I also spread an online version of the book through social media platforms.
Advice to Future Gold Award Girl Scouts: I recommend future Gold Award Girl Scouts give themselves time. High school became far busier than I thought it would. I needed all three years that it took me to complete my Gold Award. Don’t wait; start as soon as you can.
Quote That Personifies Your Girl Scout Experience: Happiness is at the core of everything in Girl Scouts. We take joy in helping others. We take joy in learning and growing as leaders. We take joy in every sisterly bonding moment with our fellow Girl Scouts.
