My Gold Award addressed the issue of the lack of ocean conservation education at a kindergarten-appropriate level and helped start the process of learning how to care for the planet and animals that we share it with. It also helped students who live in an urban area have more exposure to nature and helped them learn to treat the earth with compassion, while viewing the earth as something to give to instead of something to just take from. To accomplish this, I designed and taught a curriculum about ocean conservation to the kindergarten classes at McMicken Heights Elementary. I taught the content I made to different classes as well as the environmental club at McMicken Heights Elementary school. I also put the content onto a website called Teacher Pay Teacher for free so other teachers worldwide have access to that content.
