Girl Scout Inclusion Handbook

The Girl Scout Inclusion Handbook is a guide to help troop leaders welcome all Girl Scouts into their troops. Together, we can make Girl Scouts a supportive place for all members.

Troop Product Manager toggle arrow

Want to support Girl Scouts during the largest girl-led and one of the largest youth-led fundraisers? Troop product managers coordinate their troop’s Fall Product and/or the iconic Girl Scout Cookie Program. Troop product managers set up cookie booths, manage inventory and money, and watch Girl Scouts light up when they reach their goals and earn rewards for being the best cookie sellers ever!

Troop Product Manager Learning Path

This online learning path prepares you for coordinating your troop’s cookie sale. From preparing for the sale, to what to do during the sale and afterwards, and how to engage Girl Scouts and families each step of the way.

Annual Cookie Program and Fall Product Updates

Every year, we provide a course that details updates related to that current season’s sale, including walkthroughs on how to use the systems for each sale.

Troop Treasurer toggle arrow

Do you have a love for numbers and can’t attend every meeting? Have we got a role for you–troop treasurer! Troop treasurers are bank signers on troop accounts and keep track of the income and expenses for a Girl Scout troop. They collect receipts for troop debit card expenditures, issue reimbursements to volunteers who purchase items on behalf of the troop, and stay informed on income generated from money-earning activities and product sales. At the end of the year, they work with the troop leaders and troop product managers to complete the Annual Troop Finance Report.

Troop Treasurer Learning Path

This learning path contains all the required online courses needed to become a troop treasurer and signer on the troop account. Complete your troop treasurer learning path through MyGS.

Workshop: Banking and the Annual Troop Finance Report

This workshop is held annually and is specially designed for troop treasurers who are completing their first Annual Troop Finance Report. Troop Finance Reports are submitted yearly by June 30.

Troop Outdoor Specialist toggle arrow

Outdoor secialists support a troop’s youth members with planning and executing outdoor activities. This person is an essential part of troops that are highly active, adventurous, or curious about the outdoors!

Outdoor Overnight Workshop

Required to sleep outdoors and take a trip for two nights or less, attend an in-person workshop about three months before your adventure! (Pre-requisite: Day Trip Planning and Basic Overnights, available on gsLearn)

First Aid/CPR

Nothing is more important than the safety of our Girl Scouts! If the Safety Activity Checkpoints requires a First Aider to accompany a troops' chosen activity, the First Aid/CPR training is a requirement so that everyone can be safe. You can find a class near you (fire stations, hospitals, parks and recreation, and colleges often offer courses),. Wilderness and Remote First Aid

If you're planning to take your troop more than 30 minutes away from emergency medical services, one adult with this certification must be present. This 16+ hour workshop is provided by a variety of national certifying agencies. Check out the Volunteer Essentials for more details or view available Girl Scout workshops.

Council Volunteer Facilitator toggle arrow

Volunteer facilitators are the heart of the Girl Scout Volunteer Learning Program. These volunteers range in experience and areas of focus and share a love of providing learning opportunities for other volunteers.

Facilitating Adult Learning

Held 2-3 times per year, Facilitating Adult Learning (FAL) is the one-day course all facilitators take to be approved council facilitators. Covering a range of subjects from adult learning principles to creating inclusive learning environments, FAL ensures all council facilitators receive the same preparation.

Facilitator Intern Program

Upon completing FAL, volunteers enter an internship program where they can learn alongside more experienced facilitators who act as mentors. The timeline of this program is flexible—interns and mentors work together to achieve competency.

Learning Opportunities and Requirements by Activity

Volunteers working with troops often need to complete trainings ahead of planned activities with their Girl Scouts. Browse these activity types to see what volunteer training(s) will be needed.

Daytime Adventures

Day Trip Planning toggle arrow

If your troop is excited to go on a field trip away from your meeting site for four or more hours, you'll need to complete Day Trip Planning! Attend an in-person workshop or complete the online workshop in MyGS.

Overnight Adventures

Basic Overnight (Formerly Called Indoor Overnight) toggle arrow

Does your troop want to go on an overnight for the first time, either inside or close to home? Complete the online learning module in MyGS about three months before your overnight! (Pre-requisite: Day Trip Planning)

Outdoor Overnight toggle arrow

To sleep outdoors and take a trip for two nights or less, attend an in-person workshop about three months before your adventure! Volunteers with extensive outdoor experience in the Pacific Northwest as well as significant outdoor leadership experience with children can apply for equivalency through the Outdoor Overnight Equivalency course on gsLearn. (Pre-requisite: Day Trip Planning and Basic Overnights)
