The Great Cascadia Zombie Survival Challenge: Take the steps to make your zombie (aka your family and community) resilient in times of emergencies. Whether you are preparing for a snowstorm, heat or smoke advisory, or an earthquake, preparing your zombie before disaster strikes is important.
Emergency preparedness is often approached from a place of fear, but the Zombie Survival Challenge takes the fear away and teaches Girl Scouts how to “be prepared, not scared!”
Girl Scouts have two registration options to participate: complete the self-paced program and work through your zombie journey on your own timeline OR join us for an in-person zombie survival challenge!
Begin your zombie journey with the center patch challenge chapter. Your first assignment is to brainstorm what challenges your zombie might come across. What emergencies or disasters, natural or man-made might affect you, your troop, your family, and your community and thus your zombie? This list will help determine what tools you and your zombie will need to survive.
After you’ve completed a rocker chapter, you’ll earn the corresponding rocker—a small patch that sits on the outside of your center patch and shows off your added hard work. Each rocker challenge chapter focuses on teaching you three to four survival skills. Pick the chapters you’re most interested in or do all nine to complete the rocker patch circle around your center patch.
Register to complete the self-paced patch program on our website, receive your e-booklet, and purchase your patch from our retail store.
You can order your center patch and rockers through our online store.

Join us at the 2024 Great Cascadia Zombie Survival Challenge, and learn to be prepared (not scared!) in case of natural disasters or other emergencies.
During the event, Girl Scouts will cycle through hands-on learning stations—earning patches on topics such as shelter, water, food, first aid, cooking, light and heat, pet safety, communication, and mutual aid. Participants will even be able to “get zombified,” thanks to a partnership with Moulage Mayhem, which specializes in disaster training makeup.
Participants will be allowed to participate in either a morning or afternoon session.
