Future aviators and aspiring pilots, this is your opportunity to take to the skies! Girl Scouts of Western Washington is thrilled to partner again this year with Avian Flight Center for this very special aviation event. You will be paired with a certified flight instructor (CFI), who will walk you through the hows and whys of a preflight check-like testing the ailerons, checking the fuel, and much more-before hopping into the cockpit, taking the yoke, and controlling the aircraft!

You'll also hear from the crew in the airframe and engine shops on the ground to see what goes into keeping aircraft safe and airworthy.

We are offering two flight blocks throughout the day this year for this Discovery Flight Day. You will be paired with one or two other Girl Scouts in the same flight block, and you will take turns copiloting under the instruction of your CFI. The morning flight block will begin with the flight and end with the shop session; the afternoon flight block will begin with the shop session and end with the flight. Both groups will overlap during the shop block.

All participants MUST be at least 12 years of age by the registration deadline.

Please note that we will not have a Discovery Flight in Seattle this year, as our flight school partner there has gone out of business.

IMPORTANT: TSA REQUIREMENTS FOR REPEAT FLIERS. If you have flown with a US flight instructor before (either in a previous Discovery Flight or independently of Girl Scouts), then you must bring proof of citizenship OR get TSA clearance. US citizens must provide proof of citizenship via birth certificate or passport. Non-citizens, including green card holders, need TSA clearance. If this is you, please reach out so we can connect you with Avian to begin the process. TSA clearance takes up to two weeks to complete. These requirements are non-negotiable and are NOT new this year.

If this will be your first time flying with an instructor, then the above TSA requirements DO NOT apply to you.

If you have a logbook from a previous flight, bring it! If you don't have a logbook, consider purchasing or making your own, especially if you think you will fly again.

PARENTS/GUARDIANS, PLEASE NOTE: You MUST bring your Girl Scout inside the flight center to check your Girl Scout in and turn in paperwork (which will be emailed to you after the registration deadline). You may then leaveso long as your Girl Scout can get in touch quickly. You must also come inside the flight center to sign out your Girl Scout at the end of the event. Consider this to be clarification on the below-listed drop-off policy.

We aspire to offer programs where all Girl Scouts are able to show up as their most comfortable and authentic selves. Please use the special circumstances box during registration to share anything we should know so we can do our best to meet their needs, when possible.

Girl Scout events at Girl Scouts of Western Washington are open to all girls and gender expansive youth who identify with the girl experience.

This program is made possible by Boeing.
