Become a Girl Scout

Where can your girl find opportunities to stand up, speak up, and take the lead? At Girl Scouts. With us, she will harness her inner G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk Taker, Leader.)™

What does a G.I.R.L. do? She finds sustainable solutions to problems in her community. She courageously explores the great outdoors. She can build robots, learn to code, conduct experiments, and so much more. The chance to take the lead is never far away.

With us, the possibilities of what she can achieve are endless. Give her the chance to build skills in a safe environment where she can increase her confidence, positively impact her community, and change the world!

Why Join

Backed by 105 years of experience, Girl Scouts fuels the woman-leadership pipeline. According to information gathered by the Girl Scout Research Institute, data shows that Girl Scout alumnae enjoy higher incomes, more rewarding careers, and are more active in their community than their peers. Why? Our all-girl environment and individually tailored Girl Scout experiences give girls the chance to take the wheel and take the lead.

Our program provides engaging and worthwhile activities that respond to the needs of today’s girls with the flexibility that respects their busy lives – and yours! Ninety-six percent of girls have tried at least one new thing as a Girl Scout and Girl Scouts of Western Washington challenges girls to explore their passions and get out of their comfort zone.

Frequently Asked Questions

1) WHO CAN JOIN?
Girl Scouts of Western Washington is an inclusive organization, and we accept all girls in kindergarten through 12th grade as members. We also recognize that gender is not binary - people don't identify only as boys or girls. We welcome children from across the gender spectrum.

2) HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Membership costs $25 a year, and financial assistance is available if you qualify. Visit our financial assistance page to apply. Additional costs will vary depending on the Girl Scouting adventure chosen. Some expenses such as books and uniforms are optional but may also be covered by financial assistance. Girl Scouts can also use money from product sales to fund troop expenses including uniforms, badges, and patches.

3) CAN MEN VOLUNTEER?
Absolutely! Men make great volunteers and role models for girls. All volunteers must pass a background check, and male Troop Leaders must have a female Co-Leader.

4) DO VOLUNTEERS HAVE BACKGROUND CHECKS?
All troop leaders must be a registered member over 18 years old and able to pass our background check. Background checks are free and will be sent to you via email from our external vendor after membership is purchased or you volunteer for a role.

5) WHEN AND WHERE DO TROOPS MEET?
Troops are led by volunteers. Volunteers decide when, where, and how often their troop meets. On average, troops meet twice a month for about an hour. Some troops meet in schools, homes, churches, fire stations or businesses, for example. Some meet weekly, monthly, or around other activities. The girls and volunteers should decide together what works best for the troop. Girls are encouraged to lead meetings and activities depending on their age group. Every troop is a little bit different!

6) WHAT WAYS CAN I VOLUNTEER?
You can be a troop leader, co-leader, troop treasurer, or troop representative. All these volunteer roles attend monthly service unit meetings. However, there is a myriad of volunteer opportunities including being an outdoor specialist, cookie manager, and more! Find out what might be a good fit for you by filling out our Volunteer Opportunities Interest Form!
