 Celebrate National Volunteer Week

Dear Volunteers,
megan.jpg
I cannot begin to express my deep thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who are the heart

of Girl Scouts of Western Washington. You come from many different geographic areas and walks of life, and help in so many different areas of our work. But no matter where you’re from or what you do across the council, one fact remains: Girl Scouts wouldn’t be Girl Scouts without your effort.

For many girls, their first understanding of the value of volunteering comes through what they see with their Troop Leaders, Parent Troop Helpers, Cookie Managers and Service Unit Team Members. They’ll carry what they learn from you about team-building and positive role models throughout their Girl Scout year—and for many, throughout their lives.

As is the case across Girl Scouts now, though, girls don’t have to be in a troop to learn the value of volunteering. Girls have caring adults beside them at resident, community and day camps—and of course a lot of those girls wouldn’t even get to camp if it weren’t for volunteers helping to recruit them. Girls learn invaluable skills from volunteers helping them plan Service Unit Encamporees and other events across the region.

In addition to what the girls see, though, I know how many volunteers help with one-day or annual events such as the Leadership and Women of Distinction Luncheons, Cookie Site Sales and the Annual Meeting. Volunteers facilitate learning for both adults and girls, help with career days and other field trips, and provide special opportunities across our council in myriad other ways.

You have different roles and titles, different histories and interests, but you’re all part of bringing fulfilling, fun experiences to girls across western Washington. We quite literally couldn’t do it without you!  So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all you do.

With warm regard,

Megan
