Blood: The Gift of Life Patch Program (Jan-Mar2022)

One in seven Americans will need a blood transfusion at some time in their lives however, only one in ten donate blood. To maintain a viable blood bank, Bloodworks Northwest, our program partner, requires 1000 donors every day. This patch program is designed for all age levels. You can make difference by sharing what you learn.

Our Wild World - Live Virtual Event

Get wild about wildlife and earn your Junior Animal Habitats badge with PAWS! Girl Scouts will go on a virtual field trip to learn about our local wildlife and the habitats they call home. Explore an endangered habitat and dive into what you can do to protect wildlife and their habitats. This workshop fulfills all the requirements for the Girl Scout Junior Animal Habitats badge.

The PAWS Fun Patch will be mailed to you at no additional cost upon completion of the program. Junior Animal Habitats Badge may be purchased from the Girl Scouts store.

STEM Academy Workshop with Tacoma Public Utilities - Live Virtual Event

Tacoma Public Utilities has provided essential services that are vital to our community’s quality of life for over 125 years. As a part of those services, we commit to ensuring future leaders continue to empower our community forward!

TPU is collaborating with the Girl Scouts on a STEM education conference. The conference allows youth to learn about future career fields, hear from professionals, and participate in STEM-based workshops. Sign up to learn how TPU uses science, technology, engineering, and math to provide essential services to the communities we serve. The Girl Scouts will also learn where their power and drinking water come from, how to be responsible stewards of the environment, and hear from several thoughtful leaders, including the Director of Utilities, Jackie Flowers, and Mia Navarro from the Office of Equity and Human Rights. Ultimately, attendees will get to find out how to engage with TPU now and in their futures. Participants will also earn a STEM patch.

Through engaging activities, kids will learn about what it takes to care for a dog or cat and how to keep them happy, healthy, and safe. Learn about how PAWS helps cats and dogs, and how you can too! This workshop fulfills all the requirements for the Girl Scout Brownie Pets badge.

Live Online Two-Day Brownie Quest Journey with Engage Thru Tech

Space for YOU in the Skies - Live Virtual Event

Or Kalpana Chawla?  Or Hazel Ying Lee?  You may have read the book or seen the movie "Hidden Figures" but there are many Hidden Figures in aviation and aerospace.  In this program, we will begin with the basics of flight, then break out into rooms to discover more about the Hidden Figures of the past & meet a diverse panel of present aviation and aerospace experts. There is space in the skies for all!  

Do you identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color and love STEM or aviation? We hope this event inspires you and all our Girl Scouts to consider careers in STEM. This event is designed for young girls and non-binary youth across our council who aspire to become part of a diverse landscape of future leaders in aviation.

Explore the world around you and experience it with all your senses, then express your love of nature with a project that helps make the world a better place! Combine your passion for the outdoors with technology… AND be a citizen scientist and collect data, and help spread the word about issues related to the environment! Tinker around with building structures, and how engineers think. Then use what you have learned to build something to help the animals around you! Daisies will then learn about plants and animals while earning their Earth and Sky Journey, while Brownies will focus on the importance of water to us and nature in their Wonders of Water Journey!

This program runs for 3 days in a row, on Saturday February 19, Sunday February 20, and Monday February 21 from 9:00am to 2:30pm PST each day.

JUNIORS & CADETTES (flyer) 
Combine your passion for the outdoors with technology… AND connect with scientists! Make the world a better place through engineering projects and videos to share what you are passionate about! Participants will complete their Think Like an Engineer Journey and their Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey. Juniors will then investigate energy and the role it plays in our lives while making a Take Action video for the Get Moving! Journey. Cadettes will focus in on the air we breathe and tap into their senses and observation skills before making a video to raise awareness of air quality issues to complete the Breathe Journey.

This program runs for 3 days in a row, on Saturday February 19 from 11:30am-7:30pm, and Sunday February 20 and Monday February 21 from 9:00am to 5:30pm PST.

SENIORS & AMBASSADORS (flyer)
 
Combine your passion for the outdoors with technology… AND connect with scientists! Make the world a better place through engineering projects and videos to share what you are passionate about! Participants will complete their Think Like an Engineer Journey and their Think Like a Citizen Scientist Journey. Seniors will investigate what they eat and how food systems work before making a video to raise awareness for a food related issue in the Sow What? Journey. Ambassadors will practice seeing issues through the eyes of others as a part of their Justice journey and will create a presentation for younger Girl Scouts to complete their Take Action!

This program runs for 3 days in a row, on Saturday February 19, Sunday February 20, and Monday February 21 from 9:00am to 5:30pm PST each day.

Girl Scouts in grades 4 to 12 will partner with University of Washington School of Pharmacy graduate students in small groups for six different learning and game stations to complete the requirements for their free Explore Pharmacy patch! This event is open to Girl Scouts across the USA, so you'll get to meet other Girl Scouts from other cities and states.

This fun, interactive event is for registered Girl Scouts ONLY, and only for Girl Scouts in grades 4 to 12. If there is more than one Girl Scout in the family or troop, please register each Girl Scout separately. Each Girl Scout attending gets a free patch mailed to them right after the event! Please ensure the mailing address in your Girl Scouts account is up to date.

Cost: Free and includes an Explore Pharmacy patch (see the patch here)

A Trip to Mars: An Immersive Escape Room Experience in Space - Live Virtual Event

Rumor has it that there has been some foul play on the planet Mars! After a secret mission went awry, an astronaut has gone missing. The final transmission was concerning, and you were hired to investigate. Can you help solve the mystery and find a way home?

If your Girl Scout loves mystery themed novels and detective shows, then they will love this program! This experience will give them the chance to test their critical thinking skills in hypothetical situations based in fantasy and reality. Girl Scouts will learn how to excel in puzzles and riddles that involve colors, wordplay, shapes, and math. They will look for misdirections, and break down the steps necessary to solve the puzzles. Throughout the activity, they will be encouraged to share and debate hypotheses with their peers to work together to solve the mystery before the program ends.

Learning Goals:
- Improve pattern recognition ability and reasoning ability through various puzzles
- Distinguish between linear vs. non linear puzzles
- Develop strategies to maximize time
- Learn to think like a puzzle writer
- Learn to make the seemingly "invisible" answer, visible

Program held through Zoom. Zoom link will be provided closer to the event date.
