Science Workshops

Girl Scouts are always pushing boundaries, testing limits, and looking at the world around them with inquisitive eyes—they’re natural scientists!

That’s why we offer a variety of science workshops by program level in locations across western Washington. Whether you’re into rockets, slime, robots, or fossils, we’ve got a workshop that’s perfect for you!

Our workshops are open to any registered Girl Scout member of the listed program level, whether she is with a troop or not. Sign up for an already-scheduled workshop by clicking “Find Workshops” below.

Schedule Your Own Science Workshop

If you can’t find the perfect workshop, you can schedule your own!

What does this mean? It means that most of our workshops run on a request-only basis. We will work with you to choose a date, time, and location to bring one of our 20 different workshops to you! Anyone can request a workshop and we are happy to help you navigate the request process.

Before you request, be sure to browse this page for information on each workshop we offer. Keep in mind that all workshops require a large room with access to sinks and restrooms, trash cans, work and supply tables, and seats for all participants, either at tables or on the floor. Individual workshops may have their own special requirements; see our list of available workshops for more details!

Ready to request a workshop? Fill out our online form or print out the paper version. We can’t wait to hear from you!

Request Workshop

Daisy Suntastic

Don't let grey skies get you down! You'll make art with UV light and special paper, craft color-changing bracelets to test sun protections, and move a tiny solar car using only sunlight.

Special Requirements: Access to wall outlets.

Request Workshop

Daisy Wind Warriors

Explore the power of the wind! You'll find out how our senses help us experience wind, engineer a windsock to measure its strength and test out what things move in the wind.

Request Workshop

Brownie Braniacs

Thinking caps on! In this workshop, you'll learn how the brain and nervous system work together, measure the distance between your nerves, trick your taste buds, and craft an animation toy called a thaumatrope.

Special Requirements: Extra open floor space.

Request Workshop

Brownie Fossil Fun

Was there once a mastodon in your backyard? In this workshop, you'll discover Washington's paleoecologic history with fossils and drawings, make a model fossil, and build an edible model of soil layers.

Special Requirements: At least 3 extra tables, and extra open floor space.

Request Workshop

Brownie Intro to Rocketry

5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF! You'll learn about motion, make balloons soar, design your own rocket vehicle, and set off not one, but TWO water-based rockets!

Special Requirements: Reliable outdoor access, including space to set off a water bottle rocket away from windows, cars, and buildings. Best done in spring.

Request Workshop

Brownie Planet Palooza

Get ready to have your mind blown and horizons expanded! You'll find out what makes up our solar system, run a relay to discover what it takes to be a planet, and make a human-size model of the solar system.

Special Requirements: Large and long extra open floor space OR outdoor space.

Request Workshop

Brownie Rainbow Hunters

Unlock the secrets of light! You'll bend light with mirrors, write and decode secret messages using color subtraction, and build a kaleidoscope!

Special Requirements: At least 5 extra tables (can be small), and extra open floor space OR outdoor space. Please ensure at least 5 adults in attendance.

Request Workshop

Brownie Slime Explorers

Ooze into the ooey-gooey-gluey side of chemistry! You'll play a game to learn how slime forms and then make sticky, slippery, stretchy, bouncy, slimy experiments to take home!

Special Requirements: Extra open floor space OR outdoor space. Cannot be held in a carpeted room; be prepared for spills.

Request Workshop

Junior Workshops

Junior Archaeology Adventures

Dig into the past! You'll look at photos of artifacts and mummies, test soil chemistries to learn where archaeologists should dig, excavate artifacts from all over Washington, and experiment with making prehistoric tools!

Special Requirements: Cannot be held in a carpeted room unless you have a good vacuum cleaner for sand spills. Outdoor access is recommended, but not required.

Request Workshop

Junior Catapult

Launch into ballistics and the physics of motion! You'll test different sizes of projectiles, design and build your own catapult, and set off a big slingshot!

Special Requirements: At least a 20 x 50 ft area of extra open non-carpeted floor space and reliable outdoor access to launch slingshots away from windows, cars, and buildings (a football field is best). If you cannot meet the last requirement, we can still run the workshop but will skip that activity. Best done in spring.

Request Workshop

Junior CSI

We have a mystery on our hands and YOU'RE on the case!
