Here's information about the insurance available to you as Girl Scouts, when to purchase additional insurance, certificates of insurance, and what to do in the case of an accident, incident or claim.

Certificate of Insurance (COI)

When planning events on behalf of Girl Scouts of Western Washington (for example, meetings with girls, day camps, service unit events, activities with vendors, etc.), certificates of insurance (COI) are often needed to verify that an organization or location meets Girl Scouts’ insurance standards. Likewise, often facilities and vendors will request a certificate of insurance from Girl Scouts of Western Washington. Whenever a vendor/organization requests a certificate of insurance from Girl Scouts of Western Washington, we generally a reciprocal copy of their certificate of insurance for Girl Scouts of Western Washington. Use these guidelines to help you determine if we require a certificate of insurance from the vendor/organization. The information below will help you determine when you need a certificate of insurance from an outside vendor or organization, and how to request a certificate of insurance from Girl Scouts of Western Washington. Certificate of Insurance Request Forms are due to Girl Scouts of Western Washington four to six weeks prior to the activity. Email, fax to (206) 633-5099, or mail COI paperwork to:

What is a Certificate of Insurance (COI)?

A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is a document verifying that a business, individual or organization holds a current $1 million liability insurance policy. A valid Certificate of Insurance includes:

  • Insurance carrier rated "A" or better by an insurance rating firm such as A.M. Best 
  • $1,000,000 limit minimum (may be higher depending on number of people and activity) 
  • Scheduled event falls within policy period shown

How to request a copy of Girl Scouts of Western Washington’s Certificate of Insurance (COI):

  1. If the organization requests a COI from Girl Scouts of Western Washington, fill-out our COI-Request.pdfCertificate of Insurance Request Form.

How to request a Certificate of Insurance (COI) from a vendor/organization:

  1. Determine if you need a COI for the vendor and/or location you are using.COI-WhentoRequest.pdfClick here to determine if your event/activity requires a COI. If you need to get a COI, proceed to step 2.
  2. Click here to check if we already have a certificate of insurance on file for your organization/vendor. If we do, an additional copy is not required. If they are not listed, proceed to step 3.
  3. Contact the organization and request a COI. Use the criteria listed above to ensure a valid certificate.
  4. Email, fax or mail a copy of their COI and the  COI-Coversheet.pdfCOI cover sheet to:
