Patch: Northern Counties Regional Program

AGE LEVEL: Daisies - Seniors

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Northern Counties patch consists of 5 outer segments, each representing one of the counties in the North Region, which is defined as the counties of San Juan, Skagit, Snohomish, Island and Whatcom. Girls who live outside the region can earn this patch by completing the requirements in the booklet. County segments are earned by taking part in an activity with girls from the represented county.

PATCH REQUIREMENTS: Troops earn a center patch on a chosen topic (Native Heritage, Marine Resources, Exploration and Early Statehood, Forestry, Tourism, Agriculture, Government or Technology), as well as earn five segments representing regional areas (San Juan, Skagit, Island, Snohomish, Whatcom).

Daisies can earn the outer segments, but will not have time within one year to earn the center patch.
Brownies do 3 activities focusing on the area of interest of the center patch of choice.
Juniors do 4 activities focusing on the area of interest of the center patch of choice.
Cadettes and Seniors do four activities focusing on the area of interest of the center patch of choice, and one activity helping another troop or your service unit in earning any of the leading edge patches.

SAMPLE ACTIVITIES:

Forestry – Does one of your girls have a parent or relative who is a logger or who works in a forest products industry? How are forests and Marine Resources related? Many museums have displays about logging in the early days.
Tourism – Visit chambers of commerce and information bureaus. Look in the phone book and see what businesses depend on tourism or recreation. How are tourism and recreation related to agriculture and marine resources?
Native Heritage – You can read and learn about native communities at your public libraries. Better yet is to call native communities to ask if there is someone who would be able to share a bit of the native culture with your girls.
