Thank you for your interest in Save Our Sound!
Girl Scouts of Western Washington is still supporting the Save Our Sound community service project, but in a slightly different way. We’re asking troops and individual members to locate a work party or event in their area.
Start by contacting the Parks department of your city or county to see what’s coming up. It’s best to participate in a project being sponsored by a public agency (national, state, county, or city park), to ensure that adequate liability protection is in place.
Visit the Environmental Protection Agency’s “Adopt Your Watershed” for ideas of projects you can do and local organizations in your area working to protect and restore our watersheds. Follow this link http://www.epa.gov/owow/adopt/ and enter your zip code to connect to resources in your area.
To request your Save Our Sound patches or year segments, send an e-mail with a description of your project, the number of patches or segments you need, and your mailing address to: Lisa Bond, GSWW Outdoor Program Manager, or call (800) 767-6845.
Here's what some of our 2008 participants have to say about the program:
"It was a wonderful opportunity to help our own city's environment, not to mention the beautiful scenery and perfect weather. Thanks for the day."
- Kimberly Stevenson, Troop #42168
"We are a new troop and made this one of our first meetings for the year. We cleaned up the beach to help save some of our 'sound' friends. We had a great time and it even inspired some of the kids to clean up other parks as well!"
- Charlene Damp, Troop #42583
"We planted native trees at Flaming Geyser State Park. The girls had a blast!"
- Carol Whitmarsh, Troop #40887
