Patch: Explore Engineering

Grade Level: All levels

The Explore Engineering Kit has almost everything you need to put on an engineering event for up to 120 of your closest Girl Scout friends. The curriculum (included with the kit) is designed to teach fundamental engineering concepts - needs assessment, design, and construction - in a really hands-on, fun way (can you say…LEGOs?). After an engineering "warm-up" activity, girls work in groups to design and build a structure according to the needs of another group. Classrooms, zoos, space stations…all of these and more are fair game.

Kit Details:

  • Included in the kit: easy-to-use curriculum, 30 LEGO building kits (girls work in teams of 4), crayons/pens for drawing plans.
  • You'll need to get: some newspaper, masking tape, paper to draw on, patches (patches are available from the GSWW store).
  • Time: We suggest you allow approximately 2 hours for your event.

To Get a Kit:

We expect this to be a process of negotiation and support - we want to make sure your event goes well! And, as always, we expect questions.

  1. Contact us by email (link to heidial@girlscoutsww.org) or call (800) 767-6845, ext. 606.
  2. We'll work with you to coordinate pick-up and drop-off of the kit, answer any questions you might have about using it, and generally try to be as helpful as possible.
  3. Once we've figured out the details, you'll get the kit a week or so before your event. This will allow you time to play and get comfortable with the materials.
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
