Camp Garden welcomes the many hands of River Ranch Campers

planting squash.JPG

Girl Scout Camp River Ranch is in full swing, with a full range of girls ages 6 and beyond in action outside! Campers have the opportunity to contribute to our community garden program, providing fresh veggies for campers to experience, taste and gather for cook outs. Yesterday, I worked with a group of Cadettes seeking service opportunities. Six girls came to the garden and were active digging new beds for planting by younger girls, and also staked our abundant pea crop we have just started harvesting. The peas are sweet and a welcome fresh flavor. Girls said great things about their vegetable garden experience, including: "I am going to go home and I am going to plant a vegetable garden!" and "I have never had vegetables straight from the plant before, I am so excited to taste them really fresh." Special thanks go out to the Daisies and Brownies from the Help It Grow events for planting our garden early for our first week of campers to harvest!
