What does it mean to share? To give away something you wanted but know someone else needs?
Brownie Carina M. from troop 42380 knows a thing or two about that topic. She gave away her hair. Hair that has pretty much been with the seven-year-old all of her life. But when Bernadette Merikle, regional director of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington’s East King County office, put out a call to troops to donate hair to the nonprofit, Locks of Love, Carina was an easy sell.
Her gift clearly embodies the Girl Scout promise to help people at all times, and her 12 inches of hair will go toward helping the nonprofit Locks of Love create hairpieces for financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Because each prosthesis requires between 6 and 10 ponytails, it’s a good thing Carina’s Girl Scout peers have also donated hair.

Peers like Junior Britni H. from troop 42699, who donated 10 inches of hair to the charity. Britni, who has always been attached to her long hair, didn’t think twice when Girl Scouts of Western Washington told her about the event. She admits to liking her shorter hair and is happy that she could contribute to a worthy cause.
Thanks go out to Britni, Carina and the other girls who participated!
