Girl Scout Gold Award Day Celebration!

Governor Chris Gregoire hosted 40 Girl Scout Gold Award recipients and their families at the Governor’s Mansion last night on the day officially proclaimed as Girl Scout Gold Award Day in the state of Washington!

Prior to handing out the awards, Governor Gregoire applauded the girls' efforts, remarking that they were the epitome of what it will take to come together stronger as a community, and as a country.

“If we’re not raising young men and women who have in their heart the spirit of philanthropy, ethics and hard work, then we are letting the state and the nation down.”

Girl Scouts of Western Washington CEO Grace Chien echoed Governor Gregoire's comments, remarking that "our research shows that today’s girls aspire to a different kind of leadership focused on personal principles, ethical behavior, and the ability to affect social change. The Girl Scout Gold Award process reflects this and provides the structure through which girls can take action to make the world a better place."

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award in Girl Scouting. For many, the leadership skills, organizational skills, and sense of community and commitment that come from "going for the Gold" set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship. Only five percent of Girl Scouts nationwide earn their Girl Scout Gold Award each year.

Congratulations to all of our Gold Award recipients!
