Issues facing girls today

...and how you can help them work through it all

In spring 2007, as we prepared to become Girl Scouts of Western Washington, we conducted a survey to find out what parents, leaders, and other volunteers wanted from the resources we provide. Overwhelmingly, you told us that you want to know about the issues facing girls today in order to effectively help your Girl Scouts build courage, confidence, and character.

We would like to introduce you to a new feature, Girls’ Issues, where we will regularly explore different themes that directly impact the girls we serve.

Current issues under discussion:

Relational Aggression: It Does Impact Girl Scouts
Covert aggression between our children is escalating. Learn more about what relational aggression is, why it should worry us, where to find more resources, and how you can help.

Stages of Teen Development
Exploring the development of girls in grades 6–12. Using research conducted by GSUSA, we will look at what girls in and out of Girl Scouts say is important to them, and ways that we—as trusted adults in their lives—can help them be successful.
