Getting Started

An Orientation for New Girl Scout Leaders - No Fee

Getting Started is the first volunteer learning course for troop leaders, assistant leaders, advisors, and Leaders-in-Training (LITs) who have completed their application process.

Haven't started the application process to become a voluteer?
Take the first step!

Getting Started must be taken before starting to work with girls, and is a prerequisite for Troop Leadership courses. Participants learn the basic knowledge needed to get started with their troop, including:

  • the elements of a meeting,
  • recommended content of the first few meetings,
  • available support options and resources, and
  • basic information about safety and troop finances.

Trained facilitators may also offer additional courses in your area. For more information, contact your service unit manager or regional office.

Note: Fundamentals of Girl Scouts has been replaced by GSUSA Online Orientation.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
